The brief was a family home that feels contemporary day to day but keeps the warmth of a traditional farmhouse. Two face-brick gables bookend the house, with a cream-coloured body between them, like the two biscuits of a wafer holding the filling. Openings cut into the east and west gables pull light right through the interior.

Inside, it's black-and-white checkered floors, a winding staircase, exposed beams and timber window frames, all sitting against the brickwork. A rose garden finishes it outside.
