A golf clubhouse designed from scratch on a farm, on a course designed by Gary Player.

The brief was to be grand and modest at once and had to include libraries, fireplaces, somewhere to stop and eat halfway round, and space for a visitor with no interest in the golf to sit with a drink and a meal.

The landscape is what everyone comes for, so the building turns out to the mountains in glass. Heavy rain in one season, hot and dry in the other, and a lot of glass between them, which put the work into the roof.

There was also a lot behind the scenes. Kitchens, showers, changing rooms, storage, cart storage, offices, services. All of it had to disappear into the plan so the place still reads as open, smart and luxurious. Nothing is wasted, and every note on the brief is hit.
